Modo Labs is excited to be hosting a first-of-its-kind event for students at select universities across the United States this Fall. The Great Mobile Appathon will challenge students from all majors, and with any level of technical skill, to create innovative mobile apps that will enhance campus life at their college or university. Students are being encouraged to create apps on anything from social events, to academic advising, to financial tips and tricks, but are limited only by their creativity. Winners will receive major cash prizes, at the university and national level.
Student teams will apply to participate by submitting their app concept proposal on the Appathon website. Selected teams will then be invited to spend an October weekend actually creating their proposed app using the Modo Labs’ Campus Engagement platform. The Modo platform was developed so that anyone, even those with no coding or technical skills, can still be empowered to create awesome mobile apps—in this case, students from across the university.
University winners will be announced at the end of each weekend event, where winners will be awarded cash prizes – $1,500 for second place and $3,000 for first.
First-place winners at the university level will be invited to submit a video promo along with their app to be entered into the national contest. National winners will be selected by a panel of judges and announced live at at the 2016 EDUCAUSE Annual Conference, in Anaheim, CA, on Thursday, October 27 at 4:30pm PDT.
One national winner will be awarded a $10,000 cash prize.
The Appathon will take place at the following schools:
- The George Washington University, October 1-2
- Florida State University, October 8-9
- Harvard University, October 8-9
- University of Notre Dame, October 8-9
- Arizona State University, October 15-16
