Congratulations to the Winner of our New Student Orientation Challenge

Submitted by on Mon, 09/19/16

In May, Modo Labs challenged customers to create awesome apps for New Student Orientation. The call was answered and we received numerous entries with schools sharing everything new students need to know, from orientation schedules, to key contacts on campus, to local shops and restaurants.

Mobile apps for New Student Orientation are a great way for schools to engage with their newest community members, who are not only accustomed to using mobile for everything in their daily lives, but who also expect to have important information, like Orientation details, right at their fingertips.  Creating a module for New Student Orientation is also a sure-fire way to introduce students to your app and ensure they continue to use it as an important resource throughout their college careers.

And now, the moment we’ve all been waiting for… [drumroll please]…

Congratulations to Pepperdine University!

Pepperdine created a dedicated Orientation Persona within their app, allowing them to create an immersive app version just for new students, as well as target only new students with specific push notifications.

Schedules are broken out for first-time freshman, transfers, international students, as well as families.

Resources breaks down “everything a new student needs to know” with a breakdown of campus lingo, a directory of orientation presenters and their contact details, shuttle schedules, campus maps, and a local retail directory.

Pepperdine also sent numerous, helpful, push notifications throughout Orientation week to quickly connect with incoming students.

The Pepperdine Orientation Persona within their campus app, had a striking, colorful, visual design provided students with the tools and information to make their transition to campus successful.

Special congratulations to Noelle Seybert, Social Media Manager at Pepperdine University, for her work on this app. We think she had a good time making it as well!

Pepperdine University will receive one free pass to the 2017 Kurogo Higher Ed Mobile Conference in Orlando, FL.

It was very difficult to select just one winner.  Congratulations to all of the schools that participated. Keep making awesome apps!
