  • Senior UX Designer

    Modo Labs, a leading mobile-software startup based in Cambridge, is looking for a Senior UX Designer to work on improving the user experience across the breadth of our product offering. While your focus will be on the mobile-first end-user experience, you’ll have also have the opportunity to contribute to the authoring, messaging, and analytics tools that our customers user to create and manage those end-user experiences.

    Responsibilities:
    •   Synthesize requirements from existing functionality, customer input, brainstormed ideas, and direction from senior management
    •   Develop user flows, wireframes, specifications/documentation, and prototypes
    •   Conduct user testing and accessibility testing
    •   Work closely with our engineering team through implementation, testing, documentation, and release
    •   Help promote best practices in design, usability, and accessibility within the design and engineering teams and across the company

    Qualifications:
    •   6+ years of experience as a professional designer
    •   Experience leading UX and UI design for highly functional mobile apps and web applications
    •   A portfolio demonstrating intelligent pattern- and system-based approaches to complex design challenges
    •   Strong understanding of usability and accessibility principles
    •   Good working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and Javascript, and familiarity with software development concepts and processes (e.g., version control, ticketing systems, Agile methodology). We don’t want you to moonlight as a front-end developer, but you need to know enough to design honestly and work effectively with software engineers.

    We have an opening for an experienced, innovative, strategic Account Executive. Does this sound like you?

    Based out of Cambridge, MA, or major metro area in the Central U.S (Chicago, St. Louis, Indianapolis, Dallas, Cincinnati) the Account Executive will be responsible for leading an important territory and executing sales that will accelerate growth in this key market. Establishing and maintaining strong relationships with marketing, product, customer success, services, design and management will be critical to the success of this role.

    Responsibilities

    • Achieve annual sales goals through the direct sale of mobile software solutions to territory clients
    • Identify high potential sales opportunities through prospecting and qualification
    • Present the Modo value proposition to stakeholders within prospective client organizations
    • Lead contract negotiations, including pricing, product mix and terms
    • Work closely with sales development representatives to prospect territory and build pipeline to ensure quarterly and annual sales targets are met
    • Work collaboratively with solution engineers, delivery and support teams, to ensure all aspects of pre-sales, and delivery are being worked at highest levels of performance and client satisfaction
    • Provide ongoing competitive market and client feedback to the company to help drive continuous improvement of sales team, service delivery, product development and company strategy

    Qualifications

    • 4+ years in the Higher Education market
    • Demonstrated track record of performance relative to assigned goals
    • Experience selling software solutions directly to Higher Education clients
    • Ability to clearly understand and articulate issues around student success and engagement and how Modo software and mobile apps can help solve clients’ challenges around student success
    • Ability to gain access to and negotiate with senior leadership in Higher Ed (Provost, CIO, etc.)
    • Strong verbal, written and presentation skills including expertise with Microsoft Office (Word, Powerpoint, Excel)
    • Ability to work independently, but also work in a collaborative team environment team
    • Mobile application software experience a plus

  • Ruby on Rails Application Engineer

    Modo Labs, a venture backed company, is looking for an awesome, experienced Ruby on Rails engineer to join our incredibly talented, hard working, xkcd-loving development team to work with our Kurogo platform to deliver mobile web (PHP, HTML, JavaScript, CSS) and iOS and Android apps. Our Kurogo platform allows non-developers to produce rich engagement apps for organizations such as Fortune 500 enterprises, universities and hospitals.

    The Job

    Modo Labs has built a variety of cloud hosted Software as a Service (SaaS) applications to support and complement our existing Mobile Campus products. They are built primarily on Ruby on Rails using RESTful APIs and a service-oriented architecture, and we are looking for an experienced engineer to join the team that designs, builds, and maintains this architecture.

    We value design skills, programming ability, and teamwork. Being able to design applications from top to bottom, troubleshooting and debugging tough problems, and brainstorming new ideas are important to this role. You will be working primarily with Ruby, Javascript, HTML, and CSS, but our general approach is to choose the best language for the job. We utilize PostgreSQL for storage, and we use RabbitMQ and RESTful APIs for communication between our various services. We employ continuous integration for testing and deployment

  • Front End Developer

    Modo Labs, a venture backed company, is looking for an awesome Front End Developer to join our incredibly talented, hard-working, xkcd-loving development team to work on the presentation layer of our products. Modo is used by leading institutions worldwide to deliver award-winning mobile web (PHP, HTML, JavaScript, CSS) and native iOS and Android apps.

    The Front End Developer will be an integral part of the product development team, responsible for helping craft the company’s core technology and the go-to-market products built on it. This individual will work closely with other developers and UX design staff to conceive, implement, test, and refine everything from proof-of-concept prototypes to modular UI components to complete screen- and module-level templates, all in a beautiful, usable, accessible, multi-platform, and robustly engineered manner. The Front End Developer will need to be an HTML/CSS/Javascript gun-slinger with a sharp eye, fast hand, and an agile mobile-first mindset.

    Responsibilities:

    • Work in collaboration with product designers and fellow developers to implement the best user experience for our platform and products.
    • Prototype and develop new features in HTML, CSS and Javascript
    • Participate in bug fixing, peer code review, and product QA.
    • Participate with team in daily Agile based development process.
    • Accurately scope and estimate work as part of regular sprint planning and execution.
    • Maintain an updated knowledge of current technologies and techniques.

    Requirements:

    • Proven expertise in HTML, CSS3, SASS, Javascript
    • 1-3 years of experience implementing web-based application UI.
    • Experience with source-control systems (preferably Git).
    • Working knowledge of responsive web design principles.
    • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or related field.
    • Experience in commercial software development processes and techniques.
